This week, Apple released their latest software update, iOS 8. Here are 3 things, from a mobile data usage perspective, that are worth considering:

  1. iCloud devices now see other devices with cellular radios as hotspots (iPhone and iPads). Wi-Fi iPads and Macs can now easily activate tethering on those other devices without touching them and start to use mobile data.
  2. iCloud Photo Library now syncs all photos to the cloud, using more data.
  3. Yosemite has new Auto Updates enabled, so if you are on a tethered device and an update is available, it will start downloading it automatically using cellular data.

If you’re considering upgrading to the new iPhone 6, it worth noting that the 6 has more LTE radio bands, meaning faster international roaming (and more data consumption).
