The VPN debate

For the uninitiated about VPNs, the best analogy of it is a private tunnel, encrypting and transferring all mobile data from the device to the server and back again.

VPNs are known to be extremely secure. The problem with them, however, is that only so much data can fit through the tunnel at one time. The experiment

The test, performed by our technical engineering team, involved making repeated, automated requests to a website every 30 seconds on the same device. All things were made equal with the exception of the different vectoring approaches.

Specifically, we compared Wandera’s vectoring technologies to that of a legacy VPN, much like those employed by a number of our competitors. The battery levels of the device were automatically logged at the same time intervals along the way.

The graph above shows the significant impact of using traditional VPN routing compared to Wandera’s vectoring technologies. The battery of the device using the traditional VPN to route traffic was drained after 2.5 hours, while the device using Wandera’s vectoring technologies, at that same point in time, hovered at 30% battery.
