Going global: introducing powerful new features for the enterprise

As the mobile security market begins to mature, so too do the technologies used by the world’s largest organizations.

For much of the past half-decade, it has been a race to develop the products needed by IT and mobility leaders. Wandera’s bi-weekly release cycle has meant we’ve been able to pull away from the rest of the pack, and can place added focus on building the tools required for businesses operating on an international scale.

Our latest round of enterprise-grade product updates is specifically designed to meet the needs of global organizations.

 Global templates

Wandera works with some of the most forward-thinking and reputable brands on the planet. Some of these have more than 50,000 employees, and have presences in more than a hundred different locations.

Managing mobile fleets on a scale like this can be difficult. The nature of telecommunications companies means that cellular contracts have to be negotiated separately in each region, and international agreements mean that data usage is tied to the country within which the data plan is registered.

To monitor and control usage across so many regions requires visibility into data from multiple carriers. As a result, it’s not uncommon for larger businesses to have dedicated RADAR portals for every major country they operate in.

At Wandera we strive to makes all tasks as simple for administrators as possible. RADAR can be used through SSO (single sign on) and access to “child” portals can be obtained through the “parent” account. Despite this, many clients have chosen to manage each portal individually. Why is this a problem? Simply put, this means that replicating common settings for things like complicated data plans and security policy across lots of different portals is a chore that we needed to improve.

So we have taken this important enterprise customer feedback on board, and our latest release offers a Configuration Utility. This has been created to allow admins to copy Data Policy and General Configurations between the different RADAR accounts that they manage.

This will make things far easier for admins tasked with managing accounts across multiple geographies.

It’s like the ctrl+c, ctrl+v of enterprise mobility.

There are other helpful features included in the release too. Admins now have access to a new tool enabling them to copy whitelists, block lists, and block category selections within a group, between domestic, roaming, and wifi contexts.

The notes in our customer-only support portal details more information on how to get the most from this powerful, intuitive new feature.

Even better, the enterprise-focused updates don’t end there.

SIEM integration

When we started to build the sophisticated systems that make up the Wandera service, we focused very clearly on its core functionality. That meant putting our efforts into making it as easy to use, powerful and flexible as possible. That mindset has remained a cornerstone of our thinking as we’ve continued to develop our offering.

More recently, we’ve started working with an increasing number of global enterprises. Much like the multi-regional configurations in RADAR, the needs of these large corporations can be very different to smaller firms.

We’ve spent a lot of time working with our biggest customers to understand how they’re using our platform, and which other services they use in their mobility and security stacks.

As David Renwick, our Director of Product Advocacy puts it:

“Isn’t it better to allow customers to reuse their existing investments, rather than build something totally new?”

Our objective was to focus development around the infrastructures already embedded inside large organizations. Those technologies are already in use, people know how to use them, there is documented process around them and they have already been integrated with other systems. The approach made a lot of sense.

This rationale led to Wandera’s powerful EMM and Active Directory integrations, which are already available and widely used by our customers.

We’re not just building a standalone product, we’re creating a platform that can be configured to meet the unique requirements of every organization. A platform can provide extra scale and flexibility, and that’s exactly what customers will get with our other significant update we’re excited to announce: the SIEM integration.

Admins can not only set hundreds of event triggers and notifications around the security events detected in the RADAR platform, but these can also be integrated straight into whichever existing SIEM system that a company is already using, like Splunk for example.

Customers can now use the core Wandera data to build their own dashboards, reports and automated response systems, plus continue to use the security workflows already set up inside their business. We have put powerful and flexible reporting back in the hands of the customers who need that extra capability.

Reports can now go to the right people at the right time, using the unique distribution features of the SIEM solution which quite rightly surpass those offered by Wandera. By integrating with SIEM technology, we can prioritize development on the things that matter: pioneering mobile security and data management technology that extends far beyond anything else on the market.

To find out more about the SIEM integration, customers can visit our support portal and read about how to take advantage of this useful new functionality.

Not using a SIEM solution? We are of course continuing to build and improve the reporting and event notifications within Wandera. The aim is still to offer best of breed dashboards for all customers and your feedback is crucial.

Updates like this are an important part of staying in touch with the needs of our customers. It’s energizing to be working on real problems shared by thousands of enterprises, and we’re genuinely excited about where the market is heading and the journey that we’re on.
